THE BUSINESS OF DESTINATION RETAIL

Founded in 1973 as a small, family-run souvenir shop, Tigers Eye has grown into an international business with 65 destination stores in Southern Africa and a further 12 outlets on the Caribbean Islands of Barbados and Grenada.  The business currently employs over 700 people and is (conceivably) the largest specialist destination retailer in the world.  Its destination portfolio includes: Robben Island, Kruger National Park, Kirstenbosch Gardens, Victoria Falls, Addo Elephant National Park, Cape Point, The Cape Town Shop, Two Oceans Aquarium and the award-winning Out of Africa stores in OR Tambo and Cape Town International Airports.

The destination brands in its portfolio are a collection of the most remarkable tourist sites in Southern Africa and as such are powerful world-famous names.  Victoria Falls, Robben Island, Kirstenbosch and Cape Point, are all valuable from both the point-of-view of a retail outlet and the added benefit of using the brand names to market branded packaged goods and brand labels.  Who knows what the potential of a Kirstenbosch range of natural cosmetics and herbal remedies could be?

At a generic level, Tigers Eye markets the entire Continent of Africa in a world-class way, to the discerning and well-traveled consumer.  It is the fact, myth and legend of the Dark Continent.  Out of Africa – the flagship retail brand of authentic African artifacts and merchandise is the very best that Africa has to offer.  At a specific level, we market destinations that are clearly defined by their famous geographical and historical relevance and the inherent appeal that ensures high traffic volumes of travelers.
